What do you do when Rick Bayless, chef of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo in Chicago, creator of Frontera gourmet foods, cookbook author and host of Mexico - One Plate at a Time comes to town to critique the food? You smile and say ¡bienvenido!
Rick obviously knows Playa very well. I'm almost embarrassed to say he knows some places that I'm not familiar with. You can bet I'll be hot on that trail next time I'm in town. I'm sad too that his experience at Yaxche wan't fabulous, it has been for me in the past. My hope is that it was a one time thing and that he'll give it another try next time he's in town and it will be great.
Check out his review and let me know your favorite places in Playa!

Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival
October 15 - 19, Playa del Carmen will host the Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival. This event features short works 2 - 25 minutes in length in their native language with Spanish subtitles. This is the third year for the festival.
The week will host many showings and other events in Playa del Carmen. I highly recommend if you are in the area during these dates that you stop by a tourist information center on 5th Avenue for more information about the location of the various activities.
